So in short i agree with someotherguy check your freon level first. What was happening was the a c would work fine but once in a while especially after being on the highway with the a c on the a c light would start flashing and the a c would not work untill the batt was disconnected and re connected. If you have an blinking ac light then you re out of freon and ac compressor is more than likely not engaging. To get it engaged go under hood to fuse box fin.
